Background

In taking out membership of the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Kayak Club, you are becoming part of an organisation in existence since 1975, with regular swimming sessions and varied, frequent excursions throughout Scotland on all sorts of water. The sport/pastime of canoeing has a wide range of disciplines to experience from long distance time trials through slalom. white water journeying to pottering about on a canal. The Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Kayak Club has instructional staff to cater for most of these disciplines to get you started.

Gatherings

The Club meets on Tuesdays, at 6.00 PM for Kids; 7.30pm for adults, in St Maurice's High School swimming pool during school term.Click here for pool rota The pool session is segregated into 2 parts, between 6.00pm and 7.30pm for the young and junior paddlers, then between 7.30pm and 9.00pm for adult paddlers. Safety personnel and Instructors are on hand at all times to help and supervise. Our Canoe store and summer meeting place is at Auchenstarry basin, on Wednesdays from where trips on the canal and further afield are arranged.

Social

The Club is well known for its friendly atmosphere. New members are welcomed warmly and made to feel at home, encouraged to practice their canoeing skills and encouraged to participate in the training and awards schemes for canoeists. For those who do not possess a canoe the Club's equipment is available for hire to members at a fraction of the cost of a commercial hire. What better way to learn the basics and get in some practice before committing to the expenditure of buying your own equipment?.

Juniors

The junior section within the Club works toward its own set of awards, The "Rainbow" awards which introduce the skills required from the real basics to quite advanced in a fun and informative manner. There are seven awards to be had, each with its own badge and Club generated certification. The kids need never be bored !.
